PATROONS WIN 7TH HOME GAME IN A ROW, DEFEAT PITTSBURGH XPLOSION 109-100
With four Patroons scoring 20 points or more, the Albany Patroons won their seventh straight home win, with a 109-100 [5-2] New Year's Eve victory over the Pittsbugh Xplosion. Both Nat Burton and Rashaad Powell each scored 27 points for the Green and Gold, while Amal McCaskill's 25 points were augmented with 12 rebounds. Jamaal Miller scored 20 points, including a trio of three-pointers.
The Patroons had lost two road games against Minot earlier this week, but the win against Pittsbugh gave the Patroons seven straight home victories, the longest current streak in the CBA. "I told the players what George Karl told me," said Patroons head coach Vincent Askew. "He told me, 'Good teams don't lose three straight games.' And we focused and played hard, and won the game."
"We were unselfish tonight, we got the ball up to the open man up to the floor and attacked the basket," said Nat Burton, who finished with 27 points on the night.
For Pittsburgh, John DeGroat led all Xplosion players with 27 points. Shaun Fountain and Carl Krauser each scored 21 points apiece.
Before the game, Albany's Will Bowers was placed on injured reserve; his replacement, center Gordon Malone, saw limited action in the match.
